The Transmanche Geopark: a mission combining programming and territorial marketing marketing
Within the framework of the European project USAC (Unesco Sites Across the Channel) supported by the Interreg France-Manche-Angleterre program, the Parc naturel régional des Caps et Marais d’Opale (France) and the AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) of the Kent Downs (England), in partnership with the Conservatoire des Espaces Naturels Hauts-de-France, are carrying out an application project for the label “UNESCO World Geopark
In cooperation with our partners at ARIETUR, we played an active role in supporting the Regional Nature Park on this mission. Our role was to identify the “gateways” to the various French geosites (23 in all) and define the main development principles. These two elements were essential to the application for the Geopark label.
A local mission with international impact
This mission was an excellent opportunity for the team to highlight our in-depth knowledge of the area and our expertise in urban planning, by drawing up all the essential documents for the bid, such as the cartography, the geosite description sheets and the analyses of the territorial context.
Despite its local roots, it has opened up a channel for dialogue with our British counterparts, enabling us to weave together the geological story of our Strait. As a committed European, this experience reinforced the opportunity to collaborate and renew ties with our neighbors across the Channel, who have become indispensable but distant partners since the Brexit.
Territorial Marketing: An Inclusive and Dynamic Strategy
With this in mind, territorial marketing serves as a strategic lever. It is not limited to promoting a territory, but aims to create an open and constructive dialogue with local and, in this example, international communities. This approach enables us to better understand the expectations of our customers, to capitalize on the specific characteristics of each region and to develop appropriate communication strategies.
In addition to the rigorous work carried out by ARIETUR, COREM and the Parc Naturel Régional des Caps et Marais d’Opale teams, a significant part of this Geopark application is based on strong, ambitious territorial marketing.
COREM, Promoter of Participatory Urban Planning
At COREM, we’re convinced that the union of urban planning and territorial marketing is a positive, even essential, factor in any project. By emphasizing the importance of partnership dialogue on a national and international scale, our philosophy is based on dynamic and inclusive territorial development, where partnerships between different players are not only valued but considered essential. We are determined to perpetuate this method, thus fostering the emergence of resilient, lively territories.
